The History of Notary Publics

Notary publics have a long and rich history in human society. Notary publics have been around since the Roman Empire. The services have changed over the years, but the role has been needed for a long time.

Not everyone knew how to write in ancient Rome so notaries public acted as public scribes. They also authenticated documents. That means that they said that documents were the originals and that the signatures were valid. In our society the task of writing documents has moved away from notary publics and is conducted by licensed attorneys. But notary publics still perform very important authentication duties.

If you become a notary public you’ll join this long and rich history of public service. The good news is that it’s a lot easier than becoming an attorney. The first step in the process is to take our California Notary Training Course. In that course you’ll also learn what the next steps are.

You might not be able to go back to ancient Rome, even though you can still visit many of the buildings, but you can play your part in history by becoming a Notary Public.
